...The Man Behind The Curtain

Welcome to the wonderful adventure land of Oz There are wonders everywhere, the wizard is the boss You can go adventuring, or you can go and play There is just one rule that everybody must obey and that is - Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! If you get too close to him the truth will leave you hurtin' There are things that man was never meant to know for certain so don't you pay attention to the man behind the curtain!

As the original copyright note suggests, I wrote this some years ago. Now and then I ponder adding a verse or two but can't get any good ideas. As an example of a bad one, I started thinking about where Baum got the line from and came up with a kind of libelous explanation I'll just ignore. However, if this song was ever performed on a stage (yeah right) the last verse could go like this:

This verse is the last one, now the song will soon be done.
Then the curtain falls on me, and suddenly I'm gone.
If you thought the song was great, feel free to clap and cheer -
even though you cannot see me I will still be here!

So please folks -
