To quote the Beatles again, it's getting very near the end. We are finished with possible outcomes of the car crash, so rewind your memory back to before that. There are two main tracks here. The last I will take up is a happy ending that is the most "SJ-like" because the rest of the regular cast play a much more central role as they find out about Leona's predicament and try to help her. But before that there is one last "Leona Alone" plot to air. As time goes by, Dotty's popularity increases, and so does the demands on her time. There is not only the original show, but also public appearances and stuff, and when the show gets popular enough to export it turns out that noone else can do her voice just right, so she has to start doing dubbing work as well, even reshooting some scenes specially for foreign versions. And of course (?) this means she must also take language courses so she'll understand what she's saying! All of this means there is less time left over for Leona, and there are days when all she does is get up in the morning and go to bed at night - the rest of the day is hijacked by her spotted alter ego. One fine day there is a special meeting of the board. After going through the latest developments, the chairman makes an unexpected suggestion. Or maybe not so unexpected... There is really no point in giving Leona part of Dotty's time any more, and it's only a question of time before she finds out where things are headed and starts making trouble again. And when a board member wonders when this is supposed to happen, they get another surprise. "Let me put it this way. We need Dotty full time as soon as possible, and she's with us right now... so why wait?" "Are you suggesting we let Leona, uhm, disappear without even informing her?" "What good would it do to tell her? It would only upset her, and she has no say in the matter anyway. Remember clause six? We own her! In fact this option is even included in her original contract, so she has already accepted it..." After a bit more discussion the decision is made. Unaware that he is making a musical reference, the chairman looks around and asks: "Then we are decided?" "Then we are decided!" The End (again!) I've been tinkering a bit with the dialog for this scene, and tried fitting in some more bits and pieces from the song I quoted above (a hint: It's another meeting where a fatal decision was made). There is no doubt Dotty is a craze - she is what the fans want, they think so anyway! And so on. I may return to that later... A little tail to the tale that could go with either of the "Dotty takes over" scenarios: The company soon finds out that they have made a fatal error - Dotty is too hyper for continous existence. To put it into computer teems, Leona did indeed serve a purpose by providing a heat sink for Dotty's overclocked mind. Now that Leona is gone, Dotty is slowly but surely burning herself out. She has not only taken over Leona's life but shortened it considerably as well. On a little side note, I realized I haven't said much about what species any of the new characters are. One somewhat obscure idea I got is to make all or at least some of the bad guys different native American species. Get it? You could say that Dotty "invades" Leona's mind and her life, and since she is an "imported" species, at least some of them subconsciously justify their actions towards her as "getting even" with her people. (To put it bluntly, "Your forebears took our land, now we take YOU!") There's a little epilog that started as just a few lines in one of the files I put this stuff in, that would probably fit in after any of the "Dotty wins" endings, but maybe particularly after the one above. The scene is the Watering Hole with some changes. There have been various modernisations, and most of the characters look older. One day Spotzie (remember her?) turns up a bit before closing time to ask, as she has obviously done before, if anyone has seen Leona. Noone has, so she hangs around a bit. After a while Yin comes in, looking even more old and tired than the others, and pretty confused too. After getting her the usual, Leonard asks what's wrong. "Nothing," Yin mutters, nursing her drink. "I just realized how crazy I've been all these years." "Oh come on now. You're not crazy, you just..." He pauses, making a help-me-out-guys gestture behind her back. "You just got carried away sometimes," Tiffany suggests. "Not so much of late though..." "Which makes it even worse when it does happen. You know that show on the Cub Channel, with that crazy lion?" Leonard blinks. "That old thing? You mean it's still running? Geez, my nephew got weaned on that show, and he's a big boy now! Still loves the show though..." (That was just a trick to show how much time has passed, of course ;)) Yin nods. "I was kittensitting earlier tonight, and of course we had to watch the show." While Yin keeps talking, Leonard suddenly remembers something. He checks the TV guide, picks up the remote and cycles through a pawful of channels on the TV until he finds a talk show that has Dotty as a special guest that night. They turn to look at the screen while listening to the rest of the panda's explanation. "We sat there looking at Dotty being her crazy old self... Ah, there she is again. When I got this strange feeling that I had seen her somewhere before. I mean, before her first show, and not on the screen. "Then she turned to look at the camera, and it struck me... "I know it sounds wild, but for a brief moment there... "She looked just like... Leona!" Her words are eerily punctuated by a wild laughter from Dotty on the screen, and the others get kind of distracted by it, but eventually agree that it's a crazy idea indeed. Even Yin thinks so, and so they drop the subject. A bit later the bar closes, everyone leaves, and Leonard is alone doing a bit of cleaning up before he locks up the place and leaves as well. The TV is still on, so he walks over to turn it off. Reaching for the off button he notices that Dotty is still on the screen, and pauses to look at her. For a brief moment there is a gleam of recognition in his eyes too, then he shakes his head and turns the TV off... (I had originally planned to have them watching Dotty's show but that wouldn't be on at closing time! Of course Dotty's show being for kids isn't really instrumental to the plot, so it could be changed...)
